recent travel

just got back from the most amazing european summer trip ever on jul 26!!! (yesterday, as of today)
first, my dad and i went to alicante in spain! it was a looooooong trip, about 18 hours all together i think... >-<
I loved it here! From the street our apartment was on, you could see the Castell de Santa Bàrbara, (that's Catalan; in Spanish, it's the Castillo de Santa Bàrbara) carved from the stone of Mount Benacantil, towering over the city. It really was beautiful.

Most of it was built by the Moors. There's actually a lot of debate over the etymology of the name of the mountain, Benacantil—right now it's believed that it's a frankenword of an Arabic-ization of Latin. So cool!
I find the Moors super interesting, especially in regard to how modern Spain still has so much influence from their rule. There were even some signs in Arabic in Alicante, which I found so super cool!! I wish I had taken pictures, but I didn't think of it at the time.
